hohoho.
terrorism reigns.
zyy has been following up on tibetian issues lately and well.
this thought bubbled up the last 2 days.
news in china cannot be trusted.
quoting some examples.
shanghai daily this morning reads.
Qiangba (Chairman of tibet autonomous region) held a press conference and told everyone .
13 innocent people killed by rioters.
china soldiers weren't armed.
tibetian monks went on a rampage.
chinese shops were raided by tibetians.
even to the extent of cutting their own flesh and blamed it on others.
chinese army trying to help the people by rationing food and water on the streets.
(supported by a picture of food distribution right smack in the middle of the first page).
riot stops.
everything back to normal in tibet as business and services resume.
channelnewsasia/asiaone/cnn reads.
80 people confirmed dead in tibet.
possibly deathtoll rises to the hundreds.
chinese army lockdown of the region.
cultural genocide as cited by dalai.
gunshots witnessed by tourists.
tibetans students protesting in the machu county.
and riots spreading over western china.
chinese authorities deny entry of cnn into china to report on this issue.
sososososo.
which side of the story to believe?
chinese news agency is well known for its concealing of facts.
and a conversation,
or rather debate with bruce, my ah tiong colleague over msn yesterday
made me think a lil more about how much all these information concealment/ distortion can do to people.
news = information = sculpts how a person think and all.
ive always felt that chinese newspaper are always biased in their favour.
take another example.
world ranking for top expat choice.
singapore was top. shanghai quite a distance behind.
other news agencies gave a very detailed analysis of the entire ranking. citing why this city's top. that city second and why shanghai slumped. a very unbiased report.
china news agency proved otherwise.
a whole 8 paragraphs on that issue.
7 paragraphs were on .
the achievements and how beijing and shanghai rose to be in the top 15 cities.
excuses on why shanghai and beijing were not in the top 5 ( such as . cleanliness is a factor in expat preference and due to the large population in such cities. cleanliness standards cannot be met. *well. somehow implying tht if cleanliness werent a deciding factor, they would be tops)
and yess.
only 1 last paragraph ( or rather one line ) citing singapore 1st, hongkong 2nd.
imo, chinese news are biased and they do have a power to make chinese think how the government want them to think. yes. through the control of information flow.
well.
to be fair enuff.
i believe every government does the same thingy.
like how tt JI bugger escaped.
although the singaporean govt will be publicizing information of the escape.
i believe some information will still be hidden from the public in the interest of the governemtn.
like the iraqi war.
america seemed just and right in invading iraq.
but who noes if they have a hidden agenda in doing so?
:))
read.
o*i*l*
yupyupppppp.
information tends to be distorted and yupppsieeedooo.
depends on who u believe lah :))
wooooohooo.
and to end it off.
for those who have been living in a hole back in singapore and totally do not read the news.

be careful of this man ah!
huat ah! :)))
